Hot Trends: 'Dancing With the Stars': Who Missed the Mirrorball Trophy By One Night?

SPOILER ALERT: This recap reveals the elimination results of Week 11 of "Dancing With the Stars."

It was a freestyle free-for-all on Monday's "Dancing with the Stars," as the first part of the Season 17 finale kicked off with a samba relay, judges' picks, and four supersized routines. But after three rounds of dance, one couple took their final bow in the ballroom.

So how did the final four's final dances pan out? And who missed the mirrorball by a millisecond?

Talk about gloom in the Glitter Pit! After Monday's triple performance night, the dance party was over for Bill Engvall and his pro partner Emma Slater.

"It just goes to prove to me that there is a God, because I don't think I could make one more dance," Engvall said after his elimination was announced. He also added that freshman pro dancer Slater was like his second daughter. "We just had a blast," he said, before thanking his wife Gail for putting up with the "rollercoaster ride."







The 56-year old comic was popular with the fans but not with the judges - or at least not with their score paddles. While Len Goodman previously called Engvall "the people's champion," the judges had a field day critiquing his quirky routines. Here are the highlights from Monday night's three dance rounds. Judges' Picks

This week the judges weren't just nitpicking; they were also doing the picking! Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Bruno Tonioli chose re-do routines for each couple, assigning the quickstep to Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff, the jive to Jack Osbourne and Cheryl Burke, the Charleston to Derek Hough and Amber Riley, and an encore Viennese waltz to Engvall and Slater.

Engvall's waltz was capped off by the judges' comments on the comedian's off-timing. "Not everybody's a Rolex; you need a Casio sometimes," Tonioli said. Carrie Ann Inaba was even more blunt: "I honestly never thought I'd see you here," she told Engvall, before noting that there was "still no improvement on the musicality" and everything's "still kind of a mess."

Corbin Bleu's quickstep got surprisingly harsh reviews as well. Tonioli noted that the "High School Musical" star was out of sync, while Inaba told him she "didn't see an improvement" from his previous attempt at the dance: "Get your mojo back! This is the finals!" (Surprise! Bleu still got a trio of nines, with Inaba smirking: "I didn't say it was worse!")

Amber Riley and Derek Hough topped the leaderboard in this round. The dynamic duo impressed all three of the judges (a round of 10s, anyone?), with Goodman deeming their dance "the most improved" out of the four couples. Samba Relay

Nothing screams "samba" like "No Scrubs." For the samba relay round, '90s hip hop group TLC performed their classic hit as the final four couples danced to different sections of the song about a guy who thinks he's fly. This round went to the always-fly Corbin Bleu, who pulled off a crazy, sexy, cool first-time samba and scored an extra five points.

For the final round, the sky was the limit for the no-holds-barred freestyle dances, which boasted everything from extra special effects to a bevy of backup dancers. As usual, the highly anticipated freestyles didn't disappoint, with three of the couples earning perfect scores.

Engvall's Indiana Jones-themed freestyle featured a fight for a mini mirrorball (hey, at least he got to touch one!) and culminated with the comic going shirtless, prompting host Tom Bergeron to quip, "On behalf of all of us who have a one-pack, thank you." The dance also garnered Engvall his lone "9" of the season, courtesy of Len Goodman.

Corbin Bleu and Karina Smirnoff scored a perfect 30 for their Michael Jackson-inspired dance. The duo even flew to Vegas to prep for their freestyle, and what happened in Vegas (with Michael Jackson Cirque du Soleil performers, no less!) didn't stay in Vegas. The dance featured dynamic aerials, moonwalking, and other signature King of Pop moves.

"You managed to combine iconic Michael Jackson moves with amazing ballroom touches," Tonioli said. "The packaging was pure Las Vegas magic."

Amber Riley and Derek Hough's bangin' cowboy-themed freestyle had the judges doling out another round of tens, with Inaba calling the "Glee" star a "diva dancing James Brown."

But Jack Osbourne and his partner Cheryl Burke won this round hands down. Osbourne stepped out in a top hat and tails for a Fred Astaire-inspired dance that Inaba called a "showstopper" and a "fairy tale ending" for the determined star. A perfect score had both Osbourne and Burke in tears.
