The American Music Awards are completely fan-voted, so being given the first-ever Icon Award was a huge accomplishment! Rihanna was honored on Nov. 24 - and it was presented by the people who love her the most!
Congratulations to Rihanna! The 25-year-old looked super stunning at the 2013 American Music Awards when taking home her second award of the night - the Icon Award! It was presented by three people who really appreciated her - one who even referred to her as "the voice of our generation." Rihanna Wins AMA Icon Award

Bill Maher introduced Rihanna first, calling her "the voice of our generation," which is a huge compliment. He then showed a great tribute video - a look back at Rihanna's career, from Pon de Replay to Stay, and all the success in between.
After a sexy performance of "Diamonds," we saw a video message from Jay Z, saying he was beyond proud of RiRi. Then an even bigger mentor came out to actually hand her the award - her mother, Monica Braithwaite. Like a proud mother, she gave an emotional speech for her daughter:
Rihanna, I'm so proud of you tonight. I know the journey and your career has not always been an easy one, but tonight I applaud and admire you for being so strong and so positive and so humble and so focused. And I mean, it's amazing how you always manage to take good from all your experiences. I'm so pleased to be a part of this historic moment and I just want to say I'm proud to present to you the first ever AMA Icon Award.
So sweet! Rihanna admitted she was "terrible at giving speeches," before running down her list of thank you's - it was definitely one of the best acceptance speeches we've ever seen. She even admitted that growing up in Barbados, she annoyed her neighbors with her non-stop singing!
"Just about 20 years ago is when I really started making [everyone's] life a living hell and disrupting the neighborhood," she said. She went on to thank everyone, including Jay and L.A. Reid, before then adding in her fans, the Rihanna Army.
"You keep me driven, you keep this special," she said of the fans. "I can't believe that at 25 years old, I'm holding an Icon Award." While she was getting the cue to wrap it up, she said, "If you know me, you know that I love you and that I thank you and that I'm grateful." Rihanna 'Totally Deserved' Icon Award
After the award, Justin Timberlake took the stage to accept the award for Favorite R&B Soul Artist (Male), where he said "how cute is Rihanna's mom!" It was adorable. He even added that he loved Rihanna and that she "totally deserved" it!
Mary J. Blige spoke out about RiRi's big honor too, on Nov. 24 to CapitalFM, saying that she couldn't think of someone who deserves the honor more.
"She deserves that because, as an icon, she is super on point," Mary J said before the show. "Like we look at her, people look at her and they admire her style, they admire her swag and who she is, so she absolutely deserves that right now."
We totally agree - RiRi is definitely on point! What do you think, HollywoodLifers? Did Rihanna deserve the big award? - Emily Longeretta More AMA News:
