Hot Trends: Garth Brooks' New Single Is a 'Conversation' With Trisha Yearwood

Garth Brooks' new single, 'The Call,' features his wife, Trisha Yearwood, and in a new interview, the country legend says it draws from their real-life relationship.

"It's about that point in a relationship when you make the decision whether what you have is worth fighting for, or is it just easier to call it 'friends' and live life from there," he tells Country Aircheck (quote via Classicalite.com). "Everybody goes through this; Miss Yearwood and I were in the middle of it in 2002-03."

Brooks and his first wife divorced in 2001, and he married Yearwood in 2005. They had been friends for many years prior to dating, having met when they were both struggling demo singers in Nashville.

The single is a live acoustic performance from Brooks' show at the Wynn Las Vegas, captured in the new box set ' Blame It All on My Roots.' The stark arrangement perfectly conveys the emotions of the song.

"We tried cutting this song with a full band, but kept going back to the Wynn performance, where it's just like two people talking to each other," he notes. "The echo-type piece in this is something I haven't seen since 'Mockingbird' with James Taylor and Carly Simon. I love how unique this song sounds, and when you bring it down to just two voices and a guitar, the conversation happens."

Brooks recently announced that he will embark on a massive comeback tour in 2014. Next: The Top 10 Garth Brooks Songs
